Pottery Couple Annette "Nettie" Keith and husband, Leonard, have established one of the state's coziest galleries at their farm off of U.S.1 north of Sanford. Customers and friends often spend considerable time playing with the dogs or admiring the horses at the farm before browsing the gallery or peeking into Nettie's studio to see what she is working on. In addition to formal education and training, Keith invested a lot of her learning time with Neolia Cole, Celia Cole and Kenneth George, watching them at work and asking thousands of questions. She enjoys depictions of the southwestern U.S., and often incorporates native American images into her pottery as a reflection of her own Cherokee heritage.
Leonard has become the studio's kiln-master, and has found his "second career" building kilns and providing area potters with kiln-related supplies. Pottery-N-The Barn also offers the unique wood creations of Charles Nall Jr. of Deep River, who specializes in making incredible one-of-a-kind bowls, trays and decorative works from "the ugliest stuff you can find in a forest." He uses only native woods recovered from the forests surrounding his home in Deep River, often utilizing spalted maple, wormy ash and red cedar.
